WHY EX-POSED?

By Erika

I wrote this story when I first started blogging. I felt it was important for others to know why I am passionate about blogging and encouraging others. In case you didn't get to read it the first time, here's a blast from the past!

I’m so glad you’ve decided to read my first official blog called EX-POSED. Yeah, thank you for taking out time read it. EX-POSED was something that I recently decided to do officially within the last month. I didn’t know what to call the blog until a couple of weeks ago. However, I’ve always known these three things.

1. I have gone through some stuff! I mean some really hard stuff in my life and I’m sure that I’m not the only one. There are more people out there, and I wish more would share so those going through similar situations had someone to talk to or just share they made it out of the tough stuff, and it will be okay. Sometimes, I just needed affirmation that things would be okay even if things were not all figured out or beyond my control to change.

2. I am a person who likes to encourage others. It started at a young age when I became a cheerleader in middle school and then continued through high school. I continued cheering others on in both my personal and professional life. I enjoy encouraging others as they journey through life, and I enjoy celebrating with them as they accomplish things they never dreamed possible. It wasn’t an obvious gift. I thought gifts were things like the ability to sing, play a sport, making something with your hands, or inventing the next new product. I know that’s so limiting, but I really didn’t see it as a gift until I heard it from those around me. It would come in these words. “Thank you, Erika, for encouraging me.” Or “I needed that encouragement.” After hearing it often, I realized it is a gift and I didn’t want to continue every day without living out my purpose in life. I love the quote by Maya Angelou that states, “There is no greater agony than bearing an untold story inside you.”

3. I like to write. I was trying to work through some past pain, and someone suggested that I journal to express how I feel. At the time, there were things that I could say better with a pen and could not express verbally in conversation. Before I knew it, I started to journal and write poetry, which I will share with you in future blogs.

Several things had changed in my life so I used it as an opportunity to focus more on writing. I remembered that I shared with a few people I wanted to blog. At that time, I had more responsibility so I could use time as a reason to press pause. Recently, my responsibilities changed so there was no longer anything preventing me from starting. The next step was to decide what I wanted to call our blog. EX-POSED was a name influenced by my brother, Andre and my husband, Cedric. The more I thought about it, and the more my husband and I discussed it, I loved it! It was the perfect fit for what I wanted to accomplish. I wanted to EX-POSE others to my story, EX-POSE stories of others that have faced adversity, and EX-POSE people to words of encouragement. Our words are powerful! I mean really powerful, and what we tell ourselves is just as important. I thought if I could share a word of encouragement whether it was a quote, scripture, or powerful words someone else has said to help others, I’m doing it. That’s how EX-POSED was born.

My husband and I are on a mission to encourage one person at a time through our blog. If we encourage one person, it will be worth it! Because people are worth it! Again, we’re so glad you decided to read our blog and support us as we EX-POSE others to a blog that will encourage others who are in need of hope. We know our blog may not be for everyone, but we hope it will encourage someone.
